According to a dictionary, happiness is that feeling that comes over you when you know life is good and you can’t help but smile. It’s the opposite of sadness. Happiness is a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment. When people are successful, or safe, or lucky, they feel happiness.

I had always thought achieving the next big thing or goal, getting into the university, getting a job, having great grades and maybe falling in love was what happiness felt like. I attached the essence of my joy to a particular goal and lived through life striving to meet every single one of them to attain happiness.

But there are questions;

what happens if I do not meet up?

What if I lose those things/people that made me happy?

what happens if I lose the ability to achieve them?

what if there weren’t any goals, would I still be happy?

The gift of joy, happiness or cheerfulness isn’t tied to anyone or any goal which sometimes might be hard to believe, even though people and things have the ability to make us happy, yet they do not guarantee if we will stay happy.

You are happy because you chose to be and have decided to be joyful against all odds. When you see excited children, you will be amused and wonder the source of their joy.

Life itself is joyful, the day of your birth symbolizes that and you need nothing but you to stay happy.

Live everyday like it’s your last, worry a little but do not dwell in them. Every single moment you have, choose to stay happy for YOU.
